Depth of field =/= depth of focus.

Depth of focus is a hard thing to get your head around and concerns lens planes and focal lengths and such. I don't fully understand myself.

/today's lesson.
isn't it really easy? depth of field refers to the range in the object space while depth of focus refers to the range in the image plane, both ranges where the image remains reasonably sharp.

Depth of field is easy.

Depth of focus is not.

huh. whats not easy about it? depth of focus is just the image of depth of field with the lens being the function. depth of field is in the object space, which matters. depth of focus is in the image plane, which doesn't really matter since you hardly change the distance between the lens and the film/image sensor. both increase with smaller aperture due to the same principle, and since larger depth of field range translates directly into larger depth of focus range, they are essentially linked proportionally.

Wizzie, I really like the motorcycle shot you have! The lightning is really well done, I can tell you took a lot of time on getting that perfect, and it seems you did! 8D

Legato, I like your pic as well, I think its the angle and colors that make me like it the most. And the clarity of the picture is really nice, like the veins in the light are shown very well through the photo.
