Default A few questions about received damage - 08-31-2008, 07:20 PM

Just a few questions about the game mechanics that I've been wondering for some time, I've got some of the basic idea, but want a few other things clarifying. I know that for each level, there's a specific "minimum damage" a mob can give you regardless of how much defense you have. Linked to this I'd like to know:

- Is there a different minimum for critical hits received than normal hits or can criticals be reduced to the damage of a normal hit with enough defense?
- Is there a different minimum for blocked hits received than normal hits or do the blocks only reduce the damage to the minimum of a normal hit at a faster rate?
- Do critical hits ignore defense entirely or are they just more resilient to defense than normal hits?
- Can elementing a suit to the opposing element of a mob's attack reduce it past the minimum damage?
- How much does a block reduce the damage received by (Assuming no minimums are included)
- What is the maximum evade/block rate you can get against any mob? Does this value change depending on the level difference between you and the mob?
- What is the rate of a 0 appearing if a suit is elemented the same as a received attack?

and a completely unrelated question:

- Does the game have a 'improbability' check on it? Or is it perfectly possible to be hit by 16 crits from a mob in a row? In other words is there any limit to how often an event can occur during training

I'd also like to request any formulas used to calculate things like:

- Damage received
- Range of criticals
- Block rate against a mob
- Evade rate against a mob

This probably seems a strange pile of things to ask in a thread, but I guess I just want to know more about the core game mechanics of the game. That, and I'm completely mystified about some of the shit this game pulls on me, like 3-4 unblocked criticals on my Ranger, taking me from full health to dead in a second flat.

Yes, there is a minimum difference for critical hits, not sure how much it is but its definitely there.

Blocks reduce the hit to the lowest possible damage recievable. This includes criticals.

Elementing the suit doesn't lower the ciritals and more seeing as your already recieving the lowest possible damage. 80% sure thats correct.

Maximum block rate is 96%, not sure about evade but you can get over 50%. Pretty sure block rate doesn't change for different level gap mobs but evasion does.

Rate of recieveing a 0 from same elemented suit, no idea xD. But i'd assume that it gets higher the higher the element is upgraded.

I don't know if the game has an 'Improbability Check'. Probably not but meh. The chance of recieving over 3 criticals in a row is rather small.

For finding out your damage recieved etc use Jon's Charachter Simulator. Its pretty amazing You can probably find it if you do a search on the forums or google. It pays to download it, rather small, under a meg as its a whole lot faster and more detailed than the online one.

Okay, I'm sorry I can't answer most of your questions but with the part about the block/evasion rate, there is a really nice character simulator made by Jon. You can see your hp after using an eel etc. it is all pretty accurate and shows block/evasion rate too.

Heres the link: Jon's Character Simulator

EDIT: Crap, I didn't read the above post.
