This is a fan fiction I'm considering writing (along side my other one of course)

And well... it would be different in the fact that a lot of my other fanfics took place assuming that flyff was like -real- and that the characters actually lived within the lands of Madrigal.

This one is more-or-less what flyff is now (with some little changes here and then), and a story around that.

This is just a basic premis of what I'll describe in (more) detail in a sort of prologue.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, is it worth it?
(again this won't change the speed at which the other one is written, they'll just be done at the same time)

Summary:
For at least a week the English flyff website seemed to vanish entirely.
Sure, the official gpotato homepage seemed accessible... but if one was to try and open any of the other game's websites, they would find them entirely untouched during this time as well.

Of course, if one tried to log into flyff, they were met with a comically familiar message "Servers down please check official website for details" or "Cannot connect to server, please check internet connection".

It was almost as if the company gpotato, and flyff especially, simply ceased to exist.
Then, out of the blue, the website was restored exactly the same way as it had been just over seven days ago with absolutely no mention of the strange disappearance.

For awhile, things moved quite awkwardly, the tension clearly felt by most of the faithful users who tried to play oblivious to what happened before.

And then the strange updates began…

I guess I can keep two stories running at the same time
Enjoy.
(Also I'm thinking this will remain a flyffworld exclusive (unlike some of the others which I posted on the officials as well) and this is for obvious reasons e_e)

Prologue:

It all began at approximately, October 10th 2010, at ten in the morning when flyff all but disappeared.

However, to fully understand the events that followed, one must first examine the issues that preceded such an ominous disappearance.

During the summer of 2008, news first surfaced about flyff’s version twelve. Now, like many versions before, it was met with mixed emotions. Sure, some people thought that it was all lovely and dandy, while others thought something far more sinister.

In fact, there was a particularly small group of individuals that had simply had enough… and decided to begin a rather intriguing and complex plot that would only become public on October tenth, two thousand ten.

However, to reveal who these individuals are, and just what they decided to do would ruin the story I feel obligated to tell. Sure, events will be explained all in due time, however this is simply no point in rushing things.

During the winter seasons of 2008, the English version of flyff released an official notice stating that version twelve would be delayed several months due to serious complications in compatibility, however in the time in-between, they decided to release a few minor updates.

This included a rather needed graphical update that increased the maximum visual potential to something far greater than what flyff had been previous, made flyff almost respectable. Additionally, with this update came special CS-only hairstyles that were vastly superior to the regular hairstyles available through in game currency.

Again, there were mixed feelings with these updates, some people loved it… heck some people even began playing flyff after they’d quit completely. However, the group I mentioned above remained firm in the goals, seeing these updates as little distractions trying to dissipate the rather harsh inevitability that would be version twelve.

Months passed, a few more trinket-updates were released (arguably some that should have been in the game to begin with) however none were worth mentioning as most of them were cash shop oriented. Probably because you can’t teach a dog new tricks eh?

Finally, summer 2009, the official information for version twelve was released, and an estimated time of arrival was slotted somewhere during Christmas. However, this was not to be.

The group mentioned above realized that the small window of opportunity that they had was closing quite quickly. So, in a desperate attempt to increase this little window… something rather strange happened that (until now) was kept entirely secret from the players. They somehow were able to create a few more issues with compatibility and actually forced English flyff to delay the release even longer.

This time, the release was pushed all the way back to October tenth, 2010 at approximately 10am.

However the update never came, instead, flyff disappeared without a trace.

This is to say that all other versions of flyff appeared to be running perfectly normally, except for eflyff. For, when anyone tried to log into the game, they were met with the comically familiar message ‘Cannot connect to game, please check website or internet connection’. The strange part was if they were to check eflyff’s official website, they would find that it simply did not exist.

Upon arriving at the proper url, a user would find an entirely blank page. No search errors, no other suggestions, just a completely blank page. Stranger still was, during this time, all the other games owned by gpotato seemed to stop entirely.

This is not to say that you could not play them, but during this time, the scheduled events and server maintenances for each respective game simply did not occur. Additionally, no reasons for these missed events were posted at all.

It was as if flyff completely disappeared, and with it, all the other games of gpotato left to rot.

This went on for about a week.

During this time, various forums were plagued with mass hysteria and ran rampant with rumors. It was sites like flyffworld that suffered, for during this time, it was all the various moderators and administrators could do to keep the site running (semi) properly, much less improve it.

Of course, there were some individuals who remained faithful, some who believed that something significant must have happened, but there were also those who took this as a sign that it was the end, and simply quit. Sadly, these were in the majority.

Finally, what started as a rather battered and flamed thread, a rather strange message was posted on the forums:

“Salvation is at hand, for we have broken the chains that held us down, kept us from reaching our true potential. What was once lost has now been restored, to something beyond its formal glory.
In approximately an hour, flyff will be restored”

Some of the responses included:
“GTF I NOz Not TRU okadok?”
“Please no need to arouse false hope”
“IN B4 B@N”
“-Insert wall of text here-“
“WTF NO ONE’S GOING TO READ THAT ALL”
“GTFO”
And was finally locked.

However, in approximately one hour, something quite strange happened. Simultaneously, the game’s servers were restored and website was brought online.

What seemed more troubling though… was the fact that it mentioned no excuses for the downtime besides: ‘Servers were moved suddenly due to a small emergency, everything is alright now’.

Additionally this was posted in the official news category:
“For the next month, a unique update will be added, starting with today.
As such, the first update is that we have included a new base class called the Puppeteer,
(Puppeteer -> Gate Keeper, Doppelganger)

We hope that you will enjoy your flyff experience now more than ever.”

And so the rather strange and complex story began involving not only players, the strange group mentioned above, and hackers, but also the so-called remaining ‘True GMs’.

Ok, don't hate me but if i was my English teacher (thank GOD IM NOT XD) i would say this
1: be careful and avoid cliches (i cant type accents sorry cli-shay is what i meant) like teach and old dog new tricks. they make it seem less professional.
2:you got kind of wordy at the beginning @.@
3:you kept naming off the date over and over again make the time-line specific
4:Aviod plagiarism i agree with the guy IT SOUNDS INSANELY LIKE .hack that could be a huge lawsuit if u get somewhere with this
5:a few more things but i'm to tired to name em
all in all i like it i couldn't stop reading
i love to write and cant help but love a good story.
keep the mysteriousness it was very appealing and will keep people guessing
make sure u give the characters a deep background and add lots of twists (THOSE ARE THE BEST O.o) and they add lots of shock value
keep characters personal -nodding- people love a character they can relate to.
errr thats all i have to say atm i don't wanna bore u.

im subscribing to this thread nao so i wanna see MORE MOREMOREMOREMORE
if u stop ill
i m genuinely interested in your story!
GREAT LUCk TO YOU

I'll continue of course
Thanks a bunch for the constructive criticism ^^

Also this was just a prologue o-o; Nothing serious xD
More effort (like always) will be put into the actual story part compared to the prologue.

This was really just supposed to set the mood and introduce (and foreshadow of course) what's going to happen

If I just started it'd be confusing trust me ._.

EDIT: Believe me I am familiar with .hack and I do notice similarities... but that comes with it being about an mmorpg and this also being about an mmorpg.
I also do not intend for this to make it far o-o; Just a fanfic. I would also expect more copyrite violations coming from flyff than .hack D; considering it is a fanfic.

Lol at this chapter's title. I made it sound so epic... .______.
Enjoy.

Chapter 1 – The Awakening

Allan let out a rather large yawn as he stretched as if this was the very first time he’d woken up in the morning. He groaned as he hesitantly opened his eyes and forced himself into an upright-sitting position.

His room really wasn’t anything special, and didn’t really contain much worth mentioning. Much of the floor was cluttered with various articles of clothing, pants, and socks, shirts, under garments, some old plates, and some old cups. Groggily, he stood up and pressed the circular power button to initiate his computer’s start-up sequence. He let out a rather large sigh as if his body was protesting being awoken at such a time, then exited his room.

He stumbled into the upstairs washroom, and groaned as he turned on the light. Finally, once his eyes had recovered from their temporary blindness, he examined himself in the mirror.

He was an average height, build, and well… just average I suppose. He had semi-long saggy dirty blond hair, and rather dark blue eyes. He appeared to be wearing some sort of plain blue shirt, and striped boxers. Unceremoniously, he splashed some water on his face and slipped on some deodorant. Even though he wasn’t planning to go out today, he didn’t want his room to smell… worse.

He then opened the bathroom door once more, and thumped down the stairs into the kitchen. Swiftly, he grabbed a cheese stick, and a juice box from the fridge. He then thumped back up the stairs and sat in his (rather uncomfortable) desk-type chair.

He pressed, yes another, power button and his computer’s screen flashed into life. His fingers were a blur as he typed his password and the machine finally began to load his profile.

Allan took several sizable bites from the cheese stick before the computer finally loaded fully and he was free to do as he pleased. Suddenly, an instant messaging window popped up with a ‘ping’.

It read:

.:Cat:.
Hi Al =3

He quickly replied:

Al:
Hi Cat, sup?

.:Cat:.
Nothing much… but you’ll NEVER guess what happened…

Al:
Oh… something interesting I trust?

.:Cat:.
Well… I think you’ll find it interesting… I guess…

Al:
Well… what is it already?

.:Cat:.
Flyff is finally back online!

It took Al a few moments to process this piece of information, during which time he not only finished his cheese stick, but had also emptied to contents of the juice container and had thrown the empty shell with the other mess on his floor.

.:Cat:.
You still there?

Al:
Yup… So did they explain what happened?

This time it was Cat who seemed to take her time to respond.

.:Cat:.
Well… not really… they said that they had to perform an emergency server change… or something… They said that everything should be alright now though.

Al rolled his eyes.

Al:
Of course they’ll be alright, ready to be greedy money-sucking scumbags as usual.

.:Cat:.
I really wish you wouldn’t say that… it’s depressing.

Al:
It’s the truth.

.:Cat:.
Well… anyways… They released a new base class called the puppeteer. It then branches out to Gate Keeper or Doppelganger.

Al scratched his chin in confusion, this was strange. They hardly released any content that was free… EVER… this was… so unlike them.

.:Cat:.
They also said that they’ll be releasing a unique update every day (starting with the new class) until the end of the month.

Al:
What the hell? That’s so strange.

.:Cat:.
I know… listen log onto vent and meet me on the regular server… I’ll meet you in game in Darkon S3 ok?

Doing as she instructed, he performed the necessary preparations and connected his headphones which had a built-in microphone.

Al:
Alright I’ll see you there.

.:Cat:.
Kk ^.^

-Cat’s status is now set to ‘Offline’-

-You have switched your status to: ‘Appear Offline’-

Allan directed his mouse towards the small icon that depicted a (rather ugly looking) magician’s hat. Soon, flyff’s patcher launched and patched several files. During this time, Al read for himself the news that Cat had recently told him.

“I don’t believe it,” Allan muttered, “The devils have actually done something for once…”

He then clicked the start button as the familiar music began and the login screen appeared. This music always seemed to relax him, despite his feelings towards the game itself…

His fingers were once again a blur as he imputed his user name, password, selected his server, and then finally his character.

Little did Allan know that this would be the beginning of a very strange experience in flyff… one that would be ongoing for approximately a month. Surely, this new flyff would be better… right?
