Default Computer restarts. - 07-23-2008, 06:50 PM

So, I haven't played Flyff in a while so I attempt to get on Today.

After about 3 - 5 minutes, my computer restarts. I can get past the log-in screen and start playing with my character, but if I do anything strenuous (i.e. use a blinkwing) then it restarts my computer.

It isn't an overheat problem, I've set the computer not to automatically restart and it just goes to a blue screen when it attempts to now. Anyone have any solutions? I figure it has something to do with the video card.

What does the blue screen error say?

Erm... I can't really remember it well.

But I remember it saying something like

"Your computer has *something* and needs to shut down in order to protect itself. If this is the first time seeing this message, restart your computer. If this is not the first time then contact *someone, like an adminastrator or something*

Your problem may have to do with a driver. The stop message may provide you a clue to which driver

STOP - *random technical mumble jumbo like t515s5d15e5 and stuff.*"

-_- Sorry bout' my memory

This person fixed their problem *mine* by doing this

I fixed the problem by removing ATI's "Catalyst" video driver and instead using the default Microsoft drivers for the video card (Radeon 9800).

Thank you all for your suggestions.
How would one go about doing that?

You can remove the Catalyst drivers simply by going into.."Control Panel to Add/Remove Software," & uninstall the drivers from there. As far as how to get the Microsoft recomended drivers, try this... Bring up the "Windows Automatic Update" website & choose "Custom Install." In the menu on the left side of the screen you will see tabs, one of wich will say "Hardware." Click on this tab & the recommended drivers should be listed there. Just select it & download it(will probably require Restart).
