I've bought a collector and successfully upgraded it to +2 without failure. Starting from there, guess what happened....................... 10 moonstones... failure... I said WTF?! Lol that's like over 5 mil wasted to upgrade it to +3, and its still +2 -.-"

Is that normal, or am I just unfortunate enough?

If not, then yes, it is normal. It takes about 40 moons to hit +5 I think, have fun. (Also, probably wrong forum, seems more like a question than a discussion.)

thats nothing. i bought 20 moons to upgrade it from +1 to +2 and they all failed.

On topic: Yes it is normal, i used 10 moons to get from +0 to +1.. it's still +0.
I gave up after that.

yea, I wouldn't reccomend upgrading collectors yourself. You can easily find a few on lawolf for 25-35m and that's less then 40-50 moons that'll be used to get there.
