The process was done by removing their blood and filling them up with some kind of other liquid. I don't think this method can be used for quick-response emergencies like a gun shot. I think they're looking more towards diseases or people who need an organ transplant but have to wait for it.

I can't see them having something like this in an ambulance. The ambulance is being driven so it's bumpy as fuck with stop and go movement, and taking out someones blood in that kinda situation might be dangerous.

Is it possible to just freeze that particular area? Well, then again, that wouldn't be what we're talking about here. When you really think about it, you can't apply this to much after all....

Wouldn't be possible to suspend one area: blood flow would need to be stopped to all parts of the area, to prevent the fluid being washed away, and likely the body would need to be frozen in that particular area to prevent necrosis.

It would be much cheaper to simply clone parts of ones' body in order to have a supply of organs on hand. Oryx and Crake has a good bit about pigoons, a specially-bred pig that would have extra, hypo-allergenic human organs (an idea that's actually being considered by some).

What this really boils down to is two things; a pure science achievement, with possible applications later, and a way for old rich people to avoid permanent death.
