Okay, I'm going to collaborate a FAQ sticky, but.. I need FAQ. If you're a magician of any level, be it mage, elem or psy, what questions did you ask? If you didn't, what things do you think new mages will be wondering about? No matter how small it is, post it here, with or without a response and I'll add it if its suitable.
The questions will be ordered in the sense of, which level will you need this question answered at.
If you're looking for a specific question, ctrl+f, and type in a keyword for it. If its not here, go ahead and ask it. xD
I've just started and want to be a mage! Do I add int right from level 1? Nope. At level 15 when you complete your job change quest, you are automatically restatted. You should add STR as a vagrant, then work on your mage build when you become a mage.
I'm level 15! How do I become a mage? Buy a Blinkwing of Saint Morning from the Magic Shop in Flaris, and use it. Now, when you enter Saint Morning, run north, and look on your navigator for a highlighted NPC. Run to them, start the quest. Quest guide from Eber
What stats does a Mage need? INT, or Intelligence, which increases MP amount and damage, and STA, or Stamina, which increases your defence rate and HP. Both STR and DEX are pretty much useless.
What is the best build? Try as hard as you like, there isn't one. There are alot of good builds, but there are no best ones. For more info, check through the guides of your respective class/branch o:
What do I do with my reskill? Put it at the bottom of your inventory, and don't touch it until level 60. At 60 (usually 65 for elementors), you should reskill, and allocate skill points to suit the new skills you have, and new skills to come. Be careful though. Always check which skills are useful and useless for your purposes, and ajust your skill levels according to them.
Which elements are strong against which? With '->' meaning 'is strong against', the pattern goes Water->Fire->Wind->Earth->Electric->Water.
What's the difference between Staffs and Wands? Both are for the mage class, both will cast all mage spells. However, with a wand, you can equip a shield with it, while a staff is a two handed weapon, and deals more damage. Wands for more defence, staffs for more attack, up to 60. At level 60, Psykeepers use wands, Elementors use staffs, and the second classes can only use their respective weapon to cast their spells.
Which buffs are useful for a mage? Heap Up (+STA), Mental Sign (+INT), Cats Reflex (+Block Rate), Cannonball (+Block Rate), Patience (+HP), Quick Step (+Running Speed), Protect (+DEF), Spirit Fortune (+Damage), Geburah Tiperth (+Damage). If I've forgotten any, let me know please ><
Which class is better at 1v1, Elementor or Psykeeper? In short? Psykeeper. An elementor has their level 60 1v1 skills, and their aoes, which, for efficient 1v1 potential, is poor. A psykeeper however, doesnt just have stronger 1v1 skills, but they also get a skill called Satanology which roots the monster down on the spot for a long time, depending on amount of INT. This means a 1v1 Psykeeper (known as a Satan Psykeeper) can pump all of their stats into int without a problem. However, most psykeepers will end up reverting to AoE some time in their journey, but by then, you'll be ready for it, so don't worry if you want to go 1v1 high/full int at 60.
What is Crucio? Crucio is a Psykeeper skill which, when casted, means that when monsters hit the character, double the damage which the monster dealt is dealt BACK at it. This skill is used very well by some Psykeepers, in that their build gives them a lot of HP, and they go to high level monsters, and just let them hit them for high damage, so double damage is dealt back, and eventually they die. Yes, they get exp for that, over 1% per monster at level 70, and psykeepers can start crucio at 60! Refer to Sno's Psykeeper Guide for more information on this skill, and its uses.
Which class is better at AoE, Elementor or Psykeeper? In short? Elementor. A psykeeper only has two aoe skills (psywall isnt really used in mainstream pvm, but I love the skill anyway :3), one with a cooldown, and the first isn't the best aoe you will get. Elementors have a total of 9 AoE's, six of these being of use, three being very useful, and one - windfield - being the reason my Elementors are so good at AoE. This skill slows down walking speed by half, which can be manipulated in a ton of ways (a level 65 elementor killing the whole spawn of 112-114 monsters is the most extreme you can get, and an elementor doing this, although it is a very, very long process which requires a LOT of concentration, they will be getting at least 50% per aoe).
What is Hit and Run? Also known as Kiting, Hit and Run is a method of levelling used by the Elementor class, which is based on using the Windfield skill to slow down monsters so much that you can comfortably run around and kill them without getting hit. This is generally done with AoE.
Which is better, Psykeeper or Elementor?
Spoiler
1v1: Psykeepers get Satanology (stops monsters moving motion) and Spirit Bomb, which is great for 1v1 with a high Int build. Elementors get no decent skill with the same function as Satanology, and although their 1v1 attacks are elemented, are not as powerful raw and take longer to cast.
Verdict:(easily) Psykeeper
AoE: Psykeepers get 1 AoE without a cooldown, and 1 AoE with a cooldown. The one without a cooldown is unelemented, and has a small range. Although Crucio (damage reflect x2) helps out, elementors AoE's are much more powerful and useful, and have a larger range of tactics to give them their edge in nearly all aoe situations.
Verdict: (easily) Elementor
Gianting: Same with 1v1, Psykeepers can use Satanology to not get hit, whilst Elementors don't. Also, 1v1 Psykeeper attacks are stronger than Elementor ones.
Verdict: (easily) Psykeeper
Skills: Elementors get 19 skills. 9 are AoE, 4 of these are bugged and useless, one of these is one of the best pvm skills in the game, 5 are masteries, and 5 are 1v1 skills. Psykeepers get skills such as damage reflection and rooting to the ground which enables them to level faster in some cases. However, their skills are quite same-old after a while, whereas elementors have a larger variety of skills, where different ones are used for different monsters you are levelling against.
Verdict: Elementor
Cost: Depends. If you're a psykeeper who wants to restat to various builds throughout your career, then of course it's more expensive. However, equipment-wise, both classes are pretty dirt cheap.
Verdict: Neither, unless you want to restat to different builds as a psykeeper. Both are cheap.
PvP (duel arena): Psykeepers have faster casting, the use of a shield, the ability to stun with their main skill (psychic bomb), and the ability to reflect damage off melee hits, making them basically invincible against anything that trys to melee it. Elementors just have strong attacks, which aren't too useful due to their casting time.
Verdict: Psykeeper
PvP (guild war [not the weekly one]): Both classes are great for GW's. With the use of blinkpool (teleport) and ranged attacks, both classes are very useful. However, elementors get the edge with the use of Windfield slowing down opponents moving speed by around double, and can also attack multiple amounts of opponents at once.
Verdict: Either is good. Both have their weaknesses, both have their strengths.
Clockworks: Psykeepers can just cast psychic/spirit bomb for damage. Elementors have a level 65 skill which decreases it's defence for a short period of time, so... although neither are amazingly useful...
Verdict: Neither really. CW isn't too good for mage classes.
Looks: Psykeepers can float, but Elementors have cooler looking armour. Your choice. xP
Verdict: Your preference, check out this thread for pics.
Rarity: Well, they're pretty even. Both are pretty rare though.
Verdict: Neither are amazingly popular. But thats a good thing 8D
