So that's 62 choices for each character with a maximum of 12 characters in each password. Thus there's an impressive 62^12 different combinations, or 839,299,365,868,340,224 combinations. Assuming you have a truly random combination of 12 characters, you're probably safe.

The thing with symbols is that not only do those add more possible choices, but they're often the last things the brute force hackers use...most likely because people usually don't use those in their passwords.

you're forgetting...passwords don't have to be 12 letters long. so there are actually...

62^1+62^2+62^3....+62^12

which comes out to...a couple billion more. my calculator can't handle it

Ooh...forgot about that, but it'd be more like a couple quadrillion more- my calculator which can handle somewhat bigger numbers says that there'd be about 3.279156381*10^23 different choices. That's a lot, and even if you took into account the very few people would be dumb enough to have a password that's only three or less characters long it would still be a lot.

Oww....well i changed my passwords for all 3 accounts of mine. Caps, lowercase and numbers combined FTW.

Only flaw i see in this is that you need to know the name of the account. Thank GOD i only posted about twice on the official forums.

for those wondering yes you can out symbles in your pw.

!@#$%^&*()_+-{}[]| and a few of the alt combos all work.
and so do a few chinese kanji chars

Same here, except 6 times, nd thoses posts/topics would probally be deleted, and i believe you can make your fourm nickname different from your real login. Basically, if your account user is as same as your foum nickname, your prettymuch screwed.

@ everyone thatz worried about their account being hacked. As tor said on the first page, the easiest way to prevent this is to either never post on the officials or not to post using your main account.

Just one more reason why FW > Officials.
