For the mercs skill what do you need to make it work?

You'll need an elemental weapon.

Use a Level 2 card(Touch, Lake, Gale, Voltage, Stone) on your weapon to infuse it with an element.

Just incase the "infuse" word sounded difficult for anyone to understand. Simply means Double click on the card and a hammer will overtake ur cursor. Then double click ur weapon then that element will be printed onto that weapon.
