Etiquette in the world of Flyff
By: Relmar and AidanRyuko
No matter whether you are a lowly Vagrant or an all-powerful Knight, one of the most important aspects of Flyff, and indeed and MMO, is the social aspect. Your success in the land of Roika depends on how you interact with other people. Will I persuade him into buying it? I wonder if he’ll invite me too his party? Will she buff me?
This guide will help you overcome these hurdles if you suffer with socialising or may just give you ideas if you’re a Chatbox champion!!!!
Through my experience I have created 5 Golden Rules, that if stuck to will ensure that you are popular and successful. You can decide whether to stick by them, but that all just depends on who you are. I have also included some pointers on some specific areas such as PK’ing and Assists.
Table of Contents
1)The 5 golden rules of FlyFF
2)Asking for Ress/Buffs
3)Vending and Spamming for sales
4)Fullshout
5)Slang
6)Common Courtesies
7)Powerleveling & partying
8)PK server
(Although I’d strongly recommend reading about the rules etc. if you’re lazy or just mentally retarded I‘ve summed them all up at the bottom in nice easy language for you)
The 5 Golden Rules for Etiquette in Flyff
1) Other players are people - Many people forget that the person that just struck them down or just beat them to a monster is actually another person, sitting at their desk probably grateful he trained Quick Step!!! You have to remember their feelings, so don’t start hurling abuse at people or have a go at them for the slightest thing. You wouldn’t like it so why should they!!!
2) Remember your pleases and thank you - Anything will suffice. A simple “ty” or “plz” is all people want to hear (or read). It’s only a few characters yet it makes everything that much easier. I know that if somebody asked me for something and didn’t say please, I wouldn’t help them.
Although “ty” will do 90% of the time, if you write the whole word and use proper grammar etc. I feel that it shows you mean it more and also shows that they can write in English!!!
3) Levels don’t matter - Many players find that their heads inflate when they reach the hallowed lv60 mark. It doesn’t matter what level you are, you’re just playing to have fun. Don’t treat people below you like trash because you are higher than them, and vice-versa, don’t have a go at higher levels if they don’t do what you say. They may be experienced, but they’re still pretty dumb at heart.
4) Don’t lose your temper - The main reason that people become enemies is because someone lost their temper. Picture the all-to-common scene: Two players are both attacking a Giant, they are both doing their fair share of the work and the Giant finally collapses in a bloody heap on the floor. Shock!! Horror!! It drops a Gore +4 and both players rush to grab it. Of course only one player can get it and an argument ensues.
“Why should you have it, I found the Giant”
“I’m poorer than you so I need the money”
Etc. etc.
Just think about something before you say it. Chances are it isn’t the best route to go down and it’ll save you all lots of hassle and high blood pressure.
5) THE SHINIEST OF THE GOLDEN RULES - MAKE FRIENDS, NOT ENEMIES - I cannot stress the importance of this one. I suppose it really just sums up the other 4, but in Flyff you have 2 choices. You can be nice etc. and make a new friend or you can be an arse and make an enemy. Making friends is by far the most beneficial path and you’ll regret being nasty to them, when you see them in Darkon, with al their friends while you have 2! Think about it…
Simplified Version
1) Remember other peoples feeling’s.
2) Remember your manners so Pleases and Thank you’s.
3) Treat all people the same regardless of level etc.
4) Don’t lose your temper.
5) Always try and make friends, not enemies.
Special Rules
Resurection/Buffing - Assists are the buffing class in Flyff and so it’s their responsibility to support others. Yet they are still people so don’t treat them like crap. Treat them nicely and I’m sure they’ll be more than grateful to fill you full off buffs. The same goes if you’re an Assist. Be kind and helpful, that’s your character so play like him/her. If you don’t like helping people then go be an Acro and just kill people in PVP.
Also, don’t have a go at an Assist for “not buffing enough” or for “having crap buffs”. I don’t mean you can’t tell them to improve their buffs, but don’t insult them. It’s like insulting a porn stars wang. Just tell him nicely to have some constructive surgery. Also, be reminded to ask "Please", not "plx" or "plz." One more thing, DO NOT TYPE IN ALL CAPS LIKE THIS. You could say the right things but if it's in full caps, you may be ignored.
Vending and shouting for trades
This, by far, is the most annoying part. You log into Saint morning, server 1, and
instantly you are bombarded with shouts. People constantly spamming, sometimes it's about
something no one will ever want or need. If you ever want it to get better, you'll have to
set an example for all to follow.
When shouting, only have maybe 1 or 2 messages you need to spam. Having like 6 hotkeys to
spam makes it hard for other people to read. Only spam these messages every so often,
around once a minute. This gives enough time for older people to move out of the city and
new people to move into the city.
Also, avoid all CAPS, or excessive decorations.

As for setting up shops, Names are fine, but it's suggested that you kinda hint at what you're selling.
For example :
"OMFG GREAT DEALS!!!" Is fine in a shop name, but it's not recommended.
"S>Avalon Sheild, SoSS, Pangrill" Is a good shop name, it tells people what they're looking at BEFORE they even look at your shop.
"I hate white people!" Is NOT fine in a shop name.
Also, DO NOT OPEN A VENDING SHOP CLOSE TO NPCs, this makes people angry and you could be banned if a GM catches you.
Finally, it's good to know WHERE to set up your shop.

Fullshouting
Oh yes, Fullshout...How we all love having the ability to talk to the entire server
at once. This can be good, for jokes, sales, or parties...But can also be bad, spamming,
insults, flames, etc.
Remember that fullshout means ANYONE, ANYWHERE on that server can hear what you are
shouting. Don't abuse this privledge and spam it non-stop for something you are selling or
buying. If you must use it for that, only shout once every 2 or 3 minutes for the items.
Fullshout conversations are allowed, as long as they are not 1) Offensive 2) Full of
profanity (Curse words) 3)Insulting to Gala-net or the GMs. So if someone starts talking on
fullshout, don't be afraid to respond to them on fullshout.

Common Courtesies
Aoers - If someone is AoEing or has a good group of mobs behind them, it's just polite to leave them alone and let them do their thing. However, this had it's limits.
If someone has maybe 4 mobs after him, you shouldn't mess with him, it's just not polite to steal his mobs. If someone has the entire spawn after them, then it is okay to steal one or two mobs. In addition, if someone dies, the monster they were fighting is free game.
Sellers - It's custom for the buyer to make an offer on an item, unless the seller has a price they are demanding.
Drops - If you are helping someone defeat a giant, it is polite to let the person tanking the giant take the drops. Pulling out your pet when the giant is about to die is rude and can get you on a person's bad side quickly. In addition, when doing clockworks for your guild, it is tradition for the guild leader to collect the drops. If the guild leader chooses to, he/she may give someone else permission to collect the drops.
Powerleveling and partying
Every so often, we get lazy, wether it be on our main character or our new ones. There is a thing called "Power leveling" that allows us to level up without doing any work.
Usually, this is done by joining someone's contribution party and just following someone that doesn't have a partner. You will get a little EXP and you not need to do any work.
Of course, there is a faster way, and if done right, can be done frequently. You may ask someone do really powerlevel you, in a distribution party. This should be done the same way you would ask for buffs or ress. Also, most people charge a fee for powerleveling...This can vary from 100k a level to 5m a level, depends on when you get powerleveled. (Usually lower levels have to pay less and higher levels must pay more.)
Be polite, try to use proper spelling and grammar, and Don't type in all CAPS. Here's an example.
Good- "Hey, Can you powerlevel me a little? I can pay if you have a price."
BAD- "HI, DO YOU THINK YOU CAN PLVL ME?"
BAD- "plvl plz"
If you spell out powerlevel and please, then your chances of getting someone to powerlevel you will be a little better. Word of advice, you can also shout in the cities for someone to powerlevel you...But be reminded to not spam the shout chat. Finally, when being powerleveled, do NOT have your pet out, do NOT ask/demand for drops, and do NOT try to steal drops from the person powerleveling you.
As for partying, a lot of people are constantly shouting "xx party looking for fillers!" Just msg this person and usually he/she will invite you. This can be a form of getting a free powerlevel, but then again, you could be kicked for leeching exp.
When in a party, it's not a good idea to spam for items or money, and it's DEFINATELY not a good idea to try to steal leadership or have item distribution set to random or something, unless of course, you are an FS assist that is healing a partner.
PK Server
Short and simple. If you go to the PK server it can be expected that you will be PK’ed. My personal belief is that it is the domain of losers who need to kill lower lvl’ed people for self-gratification. If you get PK’ed then by all means call them a Dick once, but leave it at that. Don’t have a fit over it. They take a risk by PK’ing and at the and of the day, what’s worse? You losing 3% or knowing that they now have a ticket to Exile Island. And you can hunt them down and send them there yourself if you want!!!!
Well with all that said, credits and kudos to AidanRyuko and Relmar for their outstanding guides!
