When it comes to audio editing there is only one of the best ones out there:
  • Audacity
Surely it's the best sound recording tool, and it's free. You can record many soundtracks at the sametime and sync the video and audio at ease.

Think of audio like this: The video pleases the eyes and the sound pleases the ears.
Good audio goes well with the video. Maybe it can set a mood for a Machinima like video, or an epic PVP battle. This is another very important thing to be aware of.
You mainly have 3 "styles" of audio to add to your video:
  1. Game audio.
  2. Music.
  3. Mix of both.
Game audio - ... pretty self-explanitory. Note: recording game audio is not possible on all sound cards/devices.
Music - It's great to choose a track that fits the video, not a random one that you have lying around in your mp3 folder. Also, if you plan on uploading the video to a site (Youtube, Metacafe etc.) make sure the right to be used in your video, otherwise it might be removed.
But the best choice would be to use a piece of music that your friend, relative or a close person to you has made him/herself. It's a win-win situation for the both of you
Mix of both - If the game audio and the music are mixed together well, they can sound awesome. Make sure one isn't too loud that the other cannot be heard!

Default My own experience

I'd like to add more solutions.

Game recording

1. Wegame
It's a free Fraps alternative to record gameplay and share the video online.
2. ScreeToaster
A Web-based screen recorder. I often use it to record som desktop mini game.
3. BB Flashback Express
A free screen recorder which supports webcam recording.
4. DemoCreator
A screen recorder allows you to edit your video with built-in video/audio editor.

Audio recording

Audacity
Surely it's the best sound recording tool, and it's free. You can record many soundtracks at the sametime and sync the video and audio at ease.

Video format converting

Format Factory
A free super multifunctional media converter. It offers All to XXX video format converting and mostly I use it to turn my video into .MP4 for YouTube sharing.

Video Editing

Windows Movie Maker
I think it's enough to help you to create an impressive game video with it. I like its movie op and end authoring features.
