So yeah, it's a Dell inspiron 1300. The fan actually stopped working while formatting.
Now it works for 10-30 mins max then shuts down due overheating. :[
Don't know if it has something to do with software or hardware..?

any idea what went wrong/know any fix?

OMG, my cousin's did the same thing, and I can't find the right driver to make it work :S

You should try to download some driver searcher than finding the right driver.

Fans don't have drivers, closest thing would be a BIOS update. Try that, if not, it's most likely a hardware issue. Call Dell.

I was going to install all recommended drivers by dell, but I needed the latest .NET framework to do so.
So I installed .NET framework 3.5.. and the fan started spinning right as installation was completed. @_@ Had no idea framework handles that stuff :0

problem solved I guess, thanks for all help <3

Most likely graphic card drivers controlling the inbuilt fan. BIOS controls only "standard" fans.

Your computer was crashing because your GFX went too hot.

I was gonna say the same thing.

Graphics drivers not doing their job = graphics card going full-pelt 100% of the time = overheat = your problem here.
