Apparently a great many men got defensive about their right to hit on women no matter the situation or location when this was brought up. Which is why I was sad. Especially since the point of the article was not "Don't hit on us ever." just, "Hey: just so you know, most of us agree that going about your business of hitting on us in this manner creeps us out/makes us uncomfortable."

The way I see it, when a guy doesn't hit on a girl, the girl instantly sees him as a toy. Sorry, 'friend.'

At least if a guy hits on you, you can tell him to fuck off and save him from the total humiliation of being led on, only to be told, 'oh, no, I don't want a relationship with you. I DON'T WANT TO RISK ONE OF THE BEST FRIENDSHIPS I'VE EVER HAD.'

And Wizzie, I think the specific problem is hitting on a woman in a space where she can't escape. Elevators are scary enough, nevermind trapped in one with someone who's making you uncomfortable.
