The Official Flyffworld World Cup Thread!

Hello!

Since there isn't a official thread where we can discuss matches, games, players, and everything else related to the ongoing world cup I decided to make one! Here I'll be updating results and hopefully bring forth some interesting discussions for those who're interested.

I'm doing this because I love Football, and it is the worlds single largest event, and the first World Cup held on African soil.

Group standings:

Group A
Spoiler

Analysis: A pretty clear group with France and Mexico as favorites, but neither has shown any good quality football instead the outsiders Uruguay and South Africa have been playing good. But France still stands as the number one but Uruguay seems to be a strong team with Forlan leading them. South Africa is predicted to come dead last, Uruguay and Mexico will battle it out for 2nd place and France will win the group.

Group B
Spoiler

Analysis: Argentina with Messi and Maradona are the big favorites, Greece have been playing decently and Nigeria has a new experienced Swedish coach who has brought a lot of stability and discipline to the team. It is going to be a struggle between Greece and Nigeria but in the end Nigeria seems like the stronger team. Korea is the weakest team in the group, but could perhaps give Greece a run for their money.

Group C
Spoiler

Analysis: England is one of the favorites to take home the whole World Cup, and therefore are seen as clear favorites in this group. Algeria has a good team and placed second in the African Cup and they probably are stronger then USA, but then again USA has a good team spirit and plays with the american "We'll win mentality", question is can Slovenia stop USA and help Algeria to the second place?

Group D
Spoiler

Analysis: Germany a favorite for this group along with Ghana, but Serbia should not be taken lightly as they won their qualifying group before France and have a lot of international stars like Vidic, and champions league winning Stankovic. They definitely have the potential and the pedigree to take home the group. Australia is the outsider and will probably place last. Keep in mind that Germany has lost their captain Ballack due to a injury and the team is quite young.

Group E
Spoiler

Analysis: Netherlands big, big, favorite in this group. Denmark and Cameroon will battle it out for second place, and Japan who didn't do very well in their qualifiers will have a hard time keeping up.

Group F
Spoiler

Analysis: Italy has a fairly easy group, and they should win it unless the other teams pull of some kind of a miracle. Paraguay is a stronger team then both New Zeeland and Slovakia, but the New Zeelanders had a excellent run trough before the world cup and could possibly compete for second place. Unless Slovakia plays as well as they did in the qualifiers considering the team they have.

Group G
Spoiler

Analysis: The group of death, there are 3 very excellent teams here. Brazil of course being a favorite, but Portugal could very well win. Then there is The Ivory Coast, they have a deadly lineup and could beat Portugal for second place if the pieces don't come together for Portugal. Korea doesn't stand a chance here.

Group H
Spoiler

Analysis: Spain, the number 1 favorite to take home the World Cup has been given a easy group. Honduras shouldn't be able to even nudge at 3rd place, but Chile and Switzerland could have a hard time with each other and the battle for 2nd place will be interesting to follow!

Alright, to start it off. I watched both games today. South Africa vs. Mexico and Uruguay vs. France. And I have to say I'm surprised. South Africa fought valiantly and deserved the draw, and since both SA and Mexico scored in the game unlike Uruguay and France they actually have a better shot at the top two positions. France has been having troubles, Govou is way to old to still be playing that position. Anelka has problems since he's not given the same kind of freedom he has in Chelsea, kind of behind the forwards. Where in France he's giving the position as a pure forward. Many have given Reymond Domenech shit because he didn't bring some players like Benzema who's a pure breed striker. And every time Frank Ribery got the ball it seemed like the other guys stopped and waited for him to do something.

I hope South Africa continues to play football like this then perhaps they have a slight chance of going trough. But I'm pretty sure France will take it home, they have so many quality players, once they click they're contenders for the whole World Cup. If they're taken out in the group stage it's going to be a miracle!

guorbatschow 06-11-2010 11:21 PM

It's being totally gay because of all the Vuvuzelas. I mean fan can cheer if there's the chance of a goal or something, then it get's quieter for a while, and the players get some kind of feedback this way so it's kind of encouraging and creates a nice atmosphere.

But what the fuck all the time same noise level?

England VS USA today, can't wait!

Psychosys 06-12-2010 01:35 AM

Unfortunately, I don't have enough time to watch all the games :(
So I will be following this thread with great interest, thanks BBRS!!
I'm actually curious to see what England will do to the States... Slaughter?

Can't wait for Holland's first match, Monday against Denmark. Even though Holland seems to be the group favourite, I don't see them breezing through the group games and into the eights.
I already predicted... a hard quarter final, and then being eliminated in the semi final.

Have fun watching the England vs. USA match Mark, everyone!

Hahaha, Greece is doing so badly. I love this.

I'm glad SK held the 0 until the end, Greece picked it up near the end and South Korea stepped down a tad. It was pretty much Slow FC vs. Fast United all along, though. Argentina - Nigeria coming up in just a few minutes. Go go Messi!

Also, fucking Vuvuzelas.

Longknife 06-12-2010 07:16 AM

WTF, Greece lost to Korea.

How does that happen?! xD

Yeah, I wanted to see more trickery. It got really boring after the first goal.

nips 06-12-2010 08:26 AM

And it was at 6 minutes.

Lol they ruined the show. :(

But, nigerian rape is ensued

guorbatschow 06-12-2010 08:33 AM

nigeria.

Psychosys 06-12-2010 08:57 AM

Damn that was a boring 2nd half :glare:

fabricek 06-12-2010 08:57 AM

greece srsly made me cry. And with cry I mean cry. They promised fuckin offensive football against korea and nigeria, with counter-play football only to be used against argentina. greece didn't do shit. I mean c'mon , how did they ever win friggin EC2004? everytime I watch them play I hope to see them win, but I think that they will end up with 0 points, again :(

jonno 06-12-2010 09:02 AM

The Nigerian goalie was the man of the match imo, he stopped them making it an embarassment

nips 06-12-2010 09:07 AM

its not gonna happen. both teams are gonna drown in vuvuzelas.

Kilconey 06-12-2010 09:50 AM

I'm extremely annoyed by the American coverage of the games. NASCAR's going on at the same time, so basically all the games I really wanted to watch get delayed to really late at night for me (keeping me from even watching thanks to work) unless its any game that involves USA.

Definitely excited for the UK vs USA game, but I'll end up missing the end of it.

guorbatschow 06-12-2010 10:08 AM

I as watching streams from www.atdhe.net

BBRS 06-12-2010 10:20 AM

Wow, I didn't think Greece would suck that much. But holy shit South Korea played some nice football! Ji-Sung Park is playing possibly even better then he is in "Man U". Greece said before the match "We may have the advantage in the air because of the player lenght", but South Korea owned them in the airduels.

And Argentina, what can I say. If they play like this they can score 3 goals against both England and Germany, but they'll lose the game 4 - 3. Can't bash Nigeria too much, they were up against Argentina, pretty expected loss.

Oh yeah I forgot the Eng - USA fixture today! Was tired when I made this thread last night, but I updated it. I'll be watching that game! C'MON ENGLAND! If Serbia does bad in the group stage I'm cheering for England!

I hate those things, they ruin everything! I hope they're not using them in the English game! I want to hear the fans singing "God save the queen"

Colliderscope 06-12-2010 10:41 AM

South Korea is Best Korea.
