As a mage under this wonderful new skills system we have....I would recommend this skill "guide", whether you go ele or psy.
First save your reskill until 65.
Now the first skill you get at lvl 15 is mental strike, I would lvl it 10-12 (you really dont need it more than that you wont be using long enough. Before you start grinding you should pick 2 of the 5 element skills trees (fire,water,lightning,earth,wind) and stick to those elements. I personally liked water+lightning and water+earth (this one uses less skill points), fire+wind is another popular combo.
Element skills: quick guide on the skills. Dont use all the skills, this is just a quick list of them, just look at the ones for the 2 elements you picked out.
Fire-
Fire Boomerrang - char lvl 18 - Missile skill - lvl it 10-20(max) If you pick the fire element you are goiing to need this skill to get to lvl 30 because the next one you get sucks.
Hot Air - char lvl 25 - Instant hit, DoT - Does damage over time, but the strike damage it does isnt worth it. Lvl it to 7 and leave it alone.
Fire Strike - char lvl 30 - Missile Skill - lvl it to 15-max Does great damage and when cast before any wind skill it increases the damage done by the wind skill
Wind: again use firestrike before any wind skill to increase wind damage. If you are going to use the wind tree you should use fire too.
Swordwind - Char lvl 20 - Missile Skill - lvl it to 5-10, this skill isnt bad but the one you get in 10 lvls is better
Strongwind - Char lvl 25 - Missile Skill - lvl it to 7-10, decent damage, pushes the enemy back each hit, the next skill is better.
Windcutter - Char lvl 30 - Missile Skill - Does great damage
Water:
Ice missile - char lvl 20 - Missile Skill - lvl it to 15-max, great damage has a chance of slowing the enemy
Waterball - char lvl 25 - Multi Missile Skill - lvl it to 7, does great damage and has a nice animation but isnt worth wasting the sp.
Springwater - char lvl 30 - Instant Hit skill - Does great damage, cast it before any lightning skill to increase the lightning damage.
Lightning:again use springwater before any wind skill to increase wind damage. If you are going to use the lightning tree you should use water too.
Lightning Ball - char lvl 18 - Missile Skill - lvl it 10-max does decent damage
Lightning Parm - char lvl 25 - Missile Skill - lvl it to 7, does a bit more damage than L.Ball but not enough to be worth the sp.
Lightning Shock - char lvl 30 - Missile Skill - lvl it 15-max does great damage especially when used with spring water
Earth:
Spike Stone - char lvl 18 - Missile Skill - lvl it to 10ish, does decent damage has a chance of stun, next skill is better
Rock crash - char lvl 25 - Instant hit skill - max it, if you use the earth element you will use this till the 2nd job change
Looting - char lvl 30 - instant hit - Does NO damage, is used to freeze mob in place, lvl it to 3 only if going ele. Otherwise save the sp and add it elsewhere. Such as the next skill
Blinkpool - char lvl 30 - no element, is used to teleport or blink to spot near you. this is a skill that almost needs to be seen to be fully understood. Lvl it as you can.
Stat building:
Full Sta ele - dumps all points in sta leave int at 15. Can take a lot of damage and mobs during aoeing, doesnt do a lot of damage.
Hybrid Ele - Typical Path - Can be Sta > Int (common), Sta=Int, Sta<Int. I know several eles including myself that started out as sta>int and went to a sta=int or 1:1. Generally Hybrids start going for the ##sta:50int by the time they become eles and then mold their build as they go. I had 80int and the rest sta when I became an ele.
Full int ele - Do INSANE damage but cant take many mobs, usually a 1v1 build and has to have an fs/rm to lvl.
