As for JFK, let's not forget that, after promising Civil Rights up and down the world, he only worked towards getting those bills passed when backed into a corner he couldn't get out of. In addition, he was quite the bastard, actually, big-time back-room dealmaker, and womanizer supreme. I actually think Clinton (Mr.) is a better analouge.

And, according to polls, however much you can trust them, it seems that we've actually got a fairly tight race on our hands.
