It's just like keeping someone alive on a machine. Would you rather them suffer the torment of being on the edge of life and death? Or would you rather have them be over with the distress?
If it works in Humans, this DOES mean we'd basically be fooling with God's creations, and we would be literally stealing away one of his very powers. If there ever was a thing to punish humanity for, I think God would choose this.
